Andrew Ramadge, the Technology Reporter at new.com.au reports that a group that says video games and violence are like smoking and lung cancer has received tens of thousands of dollars in funding from politician and outspoken R18+ game critic Michael Atkinson.

Imagine our surprise!!

Andrew’s full report can be found here.

  1. O brave and intrepid Andrew Ramadge!

Going where no man has dared to tread, he’s “discovered” that a group that opposes the legalisation of R18+ level games has received funding from the SA AG! Shock! Horror!

To expose this link, he bravely explored the Home page of the Australian Council on Children and the Media, and their Annual Reports.

This discovery is only new to Andrew. What he “found out” has been exposed to view every week in major newspapers in Adelaide for some years.
The Sunday Mail has been running ACCM’s “Know before you Go” movie reviews on its entertainment pages every week for the past 3 months, complete with an acknowledgement of the SA AG’s funding contribution. The Adelaide “ Advertiser” carried the reviews and attribution weekly for at least 2 years before that.

The ACCM’s projects have been funded from a range of Govt (both Labor and Liberal) and non-government agencies, and are separate from its advocacy.

ACCM has a reputation for independent advocacy that is respected by many, based as it is, on the latest reviews of research by professionals in the field.

Could Ramadge’s attempt at ridicule have any link to his own position in the R18+ games debate?
